Join Us for May Day 2026 at Stony Run
On the afternoon of May 1, 2026 at 3:30 PM, Stony Run's Peace & Justice Committee invites Friends and neighbors to gather in front of our Meetinghouse for a peaceful, joy-filled May Day demonstration. We are calling on our leaders at every level of government to govern with fairness and compassion, with a particular focus on caring for marginalized communities.
We encourage you to arrive in playful or festive costumes along with your signs! Our goal is to create a positive, celebratory atmosphere that honors the beauty of our diverse community and country. Signs should focus on what we are for (not so much against).
Our messages can include (any of us can create our individual messages):
- advocacy for the needs of everyone;
- peace and justice for all;
- war is not the answer, at home or abroad;
- democracy for all;
- support living wages for all workers;
- respect and support for workers;
- diversity and inclusion matter;
- all immigrants matter.
The History of May Day
May Day demonstrations are annual events held across the country to mark International Workers' Day. While these protests are rooted in the 1886 Chicago Haymarket affair, modern demonstrations are peaceful and focus on labor rights, immigration reform, and social justice.
By calling for a day of "no work, no school, and no shopping," participants use peaceful economic disruption to draw urgent attention to immigrant rights and the vital importance of social programs.
