Stony Run Friends Join "No Kings Day" Protests for Democracy
Several Stony Run Friends participated in "No Kings Day" protests on June 14, 2025. Across the country, protests drew millions, aiming to counter actions that undermine democratic norms and civil liberties, and calling upon leaders to act with integrity and uphold constitutional principles. As Quakers, we believe that all individuals possess inherent worth and dignity, eschewing hierarchical power structures and promoting accountability. Organizers stressed that the movement defended the principle that "the presidency is a public trust, not a personal throne."
- Overpass demonstrations: Sign-waving took place on overpasses of I-83 in North Baltimore and at Frederick Road and I-695 in Catonsville.
- Rallies in other areas: Protests were also held at locations like the intersection of Rolling Road and Route 40 West in Catonsville, and at the Glen Burnie Town Center Plaza.
- Harford County: A significant protest also occurred in Bel Air, where demonstrators marched along Main Street and rallied outside the office of U.S. Representative Andy Harris.
It was a powerful reminder that vigilance and active participation help preserve a society founded on liberty, justice, and the fundamental principle that no one is above the law.
