Spiritual Formation: Like a Warm Cup of Tea
Submitted by a Spiritual Formation Participant
Every Spiritual Formation meeting I was able to attend felt like holding a warm cup of tea on a cold, rainy day.
I came to the group after many years of deconstructing the faith practices of my youth, recommitting to practices and rituals that still held value for me and shedding those that no longer fit or nourished me. I was seeking out conversations and community with people who were also striving for an authentic and deeper relationship with the divine, and I definitely found that sense of accompaniment and spiritual friendship in our meetings.
Large group meetings gave me time to hear from people with different lived experiences and spiritual perspectives. They felt gently challenging as I was encouraged to consider why things resonated with me and what I could learn from messages that didn't take root.
Small group meetings gave me a closer connection with my group members. We had time to catch up and share what was affecting our lives and our practices, and those conversations allowed us to ask questions and offer insight, reflection, or affirmation. I always left meetings with a full heart.
For anyone feeling the absence of friendship in your spiritual life, I think Spiritual Formation could be a balm and a path forward.

The Spiritual Formation program is an opportunity to practice that quiet awareness of Divine Light, both individually and together. Through monthly readings, and worship sharing in small and large groups, participants share their individual spiritual journeys and nurture spiritual friendships. Stony Run’s Spiritual Formation Gatherings run from September through May on the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 7-8:30 PM. Also, participants meet monthly in small groups, organized to offer availability to people with a wide range of schedules. Baltimore Yearly Meeting offers Spiritual retreats in September and again in May.
