Quakers welcome trans, non-binary, and intersex folks to Stony Run Friends Meeting
Submitted by Brian Gamble
While we have long welcomed and supported LGBTQIA+ community to unprogrammed Quaker meeting at Stony Run. We recently approved a statement and testimony of our faith and practice. We welcome you to join us at unprogrammed worship 9:30 and 11:00 AM.
Stony Run Friends Meeting records our strong support for the beloved trans, non-binary, and intersex F/friends among us, whether in our monthly meeting or living out their truth in the wider community. When we honor that of God in each person, we also honor the Spirit-led discernment of who that individual really is. We recognize the sacredness and beauty of each person’s search for gender-affirmation, no matter their age. We rejoice whenever any of us lives fully and freely the life we know we were meant to lead.
Amidst attacks on--and erasure of--trans, non-binary, and intersex lives, we pledge to continue listening to these F/friends and taking concrete steps to welcome and affirm all people in our life as a Meeting and in our individual practice. We will communicate openly to the world exactly what these steps are, actions we are taking, and what we have accomplished. We promise to walk lovingly and faithfully, arm in arm, with each Friend who finds their truth in a trans, non-binary, or intersex life. The testimony of integrity requires us to speak our truth against injustice; we know that Spirit calls us to nothing less.
