Join the Stony Run Camp community!
There is something special about the Quaker camp experience – we hear it all the time! So many of our families have been profoundly influenced by their children’s time at Opequon, Catoctin, Shiloh, or Teen Adventure. This influence is passed down between generations, when the parents of campers volunteer at a camp, camp “kids” send their own children in turn, and whole families become part of the camp family.
We’re looking for ways to share that experience outside of those who are already part of Baltimore Yearly Meeting camps by bringing together all those who might be interested in camp with those who are already part of the Quaker camp community. On January 11 after Simple Lunch in the Dining room, we’ll be welcoming some camp ambassadors and maybe even some staff for the event – and we hope YOU can join us as well, whether you are “camp curious” or an old pro.
This year, the three site-based camps (Shiloh, Opequon, and Catoctin) are open for 2-week experiences for children ages 9-14, plus end-of summer 1-week Kindling Sessions for 9-10 year olds at Shiloh and Catoctin and 1-week OATS (Opequon Arts Third Session) for all campers ages 9-14. Teen Adventure is a 3-week wilderness camp for high school students ages 15-17. You can find lots of details about each camp experience at bymcamps.org.
Registration is already open for all – visit https://bymcamps.org/registration/ for more information. We’ll have information about Stony Run’s camp scholarships, too, and hope that all those who are hoping to get a scholarship can be with us for this session. (Can’t join us? Contact Laura in the Meeting office for more information.)
For those who have already taken part in BYM camps, we hope you can come with answers to a few questions to help our new families learn about the experience from our own community:
- What do you love most about camp?
- Is there a story or something that happened the last time you were at camp that is still sticking with you? What is it?
- Why should others go to camp?
