Quaker Cemetery in Baltimore
Simple, Serene, and Burial Lots Available
The Friends Burial Ground at 2506 Harford Road is the oldest cemetery in Baltimore, established in 1713.
The Friends Burial Ground retains its historic integrity with approximately 1,900 simple grave markers, nestled uniformly amongst a glen of large trees. Within its fieldstone walls, the Quaker values of integrity and quiet simplicity are not only seen, but movingly felt. The property also includes a Sexton’s House, built in 1861, and a receiving vault relocated from Aisquith Street Meetinghouse in 1879. The 8-foot stone wall was built in the 1860's.
In 2005, the Friends Burial Ground was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The property has been well maintained and in continuous use since its inception.
Friends Burial Ground accommodates full-body burials, the interment of cremains, and the scattering of ashes. Concrete vaults cannot be used. Green burials are fully supported with the receiving vault immediately available to hold remains until a grave can be prepared.
Friends can arrange visits or purchase burial lots from Baltimore Monthly Meeting of Friends, Stony Run by contacting the Meeting office at 443-703-2590 or sroffice@stonyrunfriends.org.
