Ministry & Counsel: Committee of the Month (May)

Ministry and Counsel: Committee of the Month (May)

by Paul Jones, Clerk of M&C

Ministry and Counsel (M&C) Committee has the responsibility of fostering and nurturing the spiritual life of our Meeting and overseeing Meetings for Worship. Members offer assistance and support to families in time of death. Members are also available to assist people in matters of spiritual discernment. Membership is required, and members serve three year terms.

Here are some things that the M&C Committee does:

  • The Committee shares responsibility with the Community, Care, and Clearness Committee (CCC) for pastoral care in times of illness, death, and major life transitions. Committee members rotate the responsibility for oversight of memorial services that are under the Care of the Meeting, working in conjunction with CCC.
  • When CCC needs to convene a Clearness Committee for a request for membership, a member of M&C participates along with members of CCC. Participation in other sorts of clearness committees is an individual service in response to needs as they arise within the Meeting.

Ministry and Counsel also works with individual Friends to commend good practice in Quaker Worship, to work out any problems, and to educate the Meeting about ways to deepen the spiritual experience during Worship. Those feeling a calling to do pastoral work might also help visit the elderly, sick, dying, and those in crisis or transition, perhaps accompanied by a member of CCC.

We are in need of new members! Contact the Nominating Committee if you are interested.
