Children’s Peace Libraries Across Rwanda

Stony Run's Faith in Action

Children's Peace Libraries and African Great Lakes Initiative

Stony Run's Peace & Justice Committee supports programs doing important work to promote peace worldwide, like the Children's Peace Libraries of the African Great Lakes Initiative of Friends Peace Teams. On November 2, 2025, the Children's Peace Libraries joined Stony Run by Zoom from Rwanda for an update on their programs.

You may watch the undiluted video of the presentation and access their presentation materials here:

Prior to the presentation, Francine Muahwenimana, head librarian of the Children’s Peace Libraries in Rwanda, shared with us how they are building a generation of peace builders in Rwanda:

“Help Us Build a Generation of Peacebuilders in Rwanda. At the heart of Rwanda’s journey toward lasting peace is the Children’s Peace Library, a vibrant, a nurturing space where children learn the values of peace, empathy, and nonviolence through storytelling, art, reading circles, and dialogue. Here, children are not only learning to read, they are learning to resolve conflicts peacefully, to express themselves creatively, and to grow into leaders of compassion in their schools, families, and communities.

Our aim is to: Reach more children across Rwanda with our peace education programs, promote well-being through shared nutritious meals, establish a model Peace Library Center as a hub for community transformation. The TLC/Children’s Peace Library is more than a library, it’s a movement for change. In communities once divided by conflict, we are helping to rebuild from the ground up by empowering the youngest members of society with the tools to create a brighter, more peaceful future.

Together, we can nurture a generation of Rwandan children who will lead with empathy, bridge divides, and build lasting peace.”
