Stony Run Minute Against War with Greenland, Venezuela and Our Other Neighbors
Peace & Justice Committee
Approved at Meeting for Worship with a Concern for Business on 2/1/2026
We believe as Quakers; that there is that of God in every person. We recognize the Inuit and other peoples of Greenland as a distinct community with their own history, culture, and right to self-determination. Any attempt by the United States of America to claim their land through military, economic, or political pressure violates human dignity and undermines the bonds of international trust.
Our Peace Testimony calls us to live in the Life and Power that takes away the occasion for all war. Friends utterly reject policies that prepare for war, normalize its possibility, or justify the taking of land without the free and informed consent of its people.
We therefore call upon the government of the United States to renounce any consideration of war or annexation regarding Greenland, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Venezuela or our other neighbors. We call upon our government to pursue relations grounded in respect and diplomacy, and to uphold international law. We urge investment instead in peaceful cooperation, environmental stewardship of the Arctic, and the well-being of all who live there.
